A better practice is to go through them either immediately after shooting, after the event, or at the end of the day (nice way to wind down at the end of the day if you're on vacation, for example. The problem with this is it takes FOREVER once you've taken 2TB worth of photos to review every single one and decide if you should keep it or not. Just wanted to add it as a reference point. On top of that, we have a NAS here, and copy files to that, but that might be overkill.

Then I'd open photos and just drag and drop to that onedrive folder (but do check that it copies over the full resolution file!). The good thing about one drive is that you can more easily change the one drive folder location, so if you were to get an external drive, make that the onedrive location. I'd look into that too, even as an intermediate step.

How can I download in bulk all my photos and videos from icloud?ĭo you also use Microsoft Office? I have the 2 TB iCloud family plan (shared between me, my wife and 2 kids, iDevice backup has been a lifesaver), and we also have an MS Office 365 family plan which includes 1 TB one drive space per person. My icloud 2TB plan is nearly full and I am trying to figure out the best way to download and backup my photos and videos so I can shift them to a local drive and then delete from icloud so I can keep using icloud photos for new stuff.

I’m not confident of this - so I have a plan. Unless of course Apple ups its storage before I get there. This is what will be available to my other devices via iCloud.

My Main Photos library will consist of the images from the past two-three years, plus a collection of my 4-5 star images and a small collection of (scanned) family photos “from the archive“. Those libraries will be available on the iMac and backed up locally and to Backblaze. I’m starting to think about (culling the genuine duds and) saving my older photos off into individual libraries by year Or perhaps 5 year periods. I’m going to hit this wall sooner or later myself and I’m not looking forward to it. You should be able to move your Photo Library to the new drive, download the originals to the library, then copy the images out for archiving elsewhere - or just move that library to a safe place and start another. I guess I'll buy a Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter so I'm not relying on Wifi. I have AT&T gigabit so it shouldn't be too bad really. Then hopefully I can download everything straight to the drive. My plan at the moment is to buy a 4TB bare drive, put it in a USB 3.0 dock I already have, and then use a Type C adapter to plug it into the MBP. The issue with downloading to the local mac is that besides my iPhone and iPad, my only Mac is a MBP, so the local drive is not large enough. Yep I first chatted and then called Apple to see if I could give them more money for more storage.
